Watching Eat The Document convinced me that seeing the man at work was even better than just hearing him, and the footage in No Direction Home was a revelation; it's just staggeringly good and desrved to be the centre-piece of the film. In particular the full version of Like A Rolling Stone from Newcastle is jaw-dropping - listen to it with no picture and it sounds amazing, but watching Dylan grimace, twitch and grin through the performance so emotively lifts it to a category on its own. I know of no other single performance better than this one. The acoustic material, which never particularly thrilled me when listening to it, turns out to be completely transfixing when viewed, by the way that Dylan inhabits these songs and brings them to life.
The heart bleeds to know that there is more of this footage in the archives. I've considered claiming a terminal illness in order to persuade Sony to let me watch it in a secret bunker somewhere before I die, but that would be selfish. It would be much fairer to the rest of the world if Sony were to release a DVD of all available footage, or at least a concert-worth of material. I'm certain that this would then go down as the greatest live DVD ever released (and I could die happy).

Brent said:

No comments for a few years, wow. Any new updates on this? Would be so great to have the full show on DVD - an important show with the whole "JUDAS" yell and all.... the quality is amazing from what I've seen of this in the great Scorcese doc.

Brenttag:legacyrecordings.uservoice.com,2008-02-07:Event/113595802012-05-16T13:26:41-07:002012-05-16T13:26:41-07:00Bob Dylan - BBC 1965 DVD [updated]
Bob Dylan was filmed by the BBC on 1st June 1965 at the venue which is now the Shepherds Bush Empire in London.
The show was aired in two half-hour slots, presumably because Britain wasn't quite ready for a straight hour of acoustic Bob at that time (and it probably still isn't) on one of the two available channels. Some enterprising people recorded the audio from their televisions when it was broadcast, and the performances are excellent. There have been rumours that it was recorded on good quality film, and that the BBC still have it in their vaults. There are some photos of the performace which look to have two TV cameras in shot, but who knows for sure? A lot of the BBC's recordings were wiped, but they have definitely shown a high quality clip from a Joan Baez performance at the same venue a couple of weeks later, so if nothing else we have hope.
Please get involved with the BBC and get them to find this in their archive. This was the last time he played an acoustic concert before the infamous Newport Festival of 1965, so it was a pivotal gig, and it would be extremely exciting to see him playing one more time before he took the leap into a new world.

Brent said:

So, this is surely wiped? NO chance of this getting out? I'd LOVE this DVD! The 1965 acoustic Dylan is my favorite era - all those performances from the "Don't Look Back" film from that spring 65' UK tour. I recently got the cd of this BBC show/shows and it's fantastic! Any chance this can still happen?? I'd give anything to have a full vid of a live show of Dylan from this era!

Brenttag:legacyrecordings.uservoice.com,2008-02-07:Event/112828892012-05-03T13:11:49-07:002012-05-03T13:11:49-07:00Unreleased Live material from CTI artists.
Ben suggested:
There are a few live tracks that appear as bonus tracks on some albums, such as "Red Clay" on Freddie Hubbard's "Red Clay" (recorded in 1971 at the southgate place, as stated in the liner notes). "Sugar" on Stanley Turrentines "Sugar"-album (taken from the same concert) and "First Light" from Hubbard's "First Light" (recorded at the Detroit Ford auditorium (no date given). It also appears on the "IN CONCERT"-album(s). I thought that CTI did not set up recording equipment to record just these few live songs (taken from three different concerts). As these live songs are absolutely awesome (and so is the sound quality) it would be great if the rest of the concert-material could be issued, too!
Bentag:legacyrecordings.uservoice.com,2008-02-07:Event/112634222012-05-01T06:21:03-07:002012-05-01T06:21:03-07:00How about comp. cd by Deborah Allen [updated]
I think it would be great if we had some compilation cds for this artist! [updated]
Thriller was originally produced as a 10-track album. The actual LP had a running time of approx 25 mn per side and it had an additional song called "Hot Street".
After the listening of the (Bernie Grundman produced) first LP-Master with Epic Records executives Quincy Jones, Bruce Swedien and Michael Jackson were disapointed of its weak sounding. They've had too much play-time on the LP which caused the poor sound because of the limmited capacity of a LP. Bruce Swedien, Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson had no other choice than to reduce the playing time of the LP.
The result was the 1982 released LP. The core of the play-time shortage were:
side A: Hot Street was remove from the tracklist
side B: Billie Jean was extremely shortened (intro and bridge shortened and the fantastic ad-libs were completly removed)
and on The Lady In My Life the 2nd verse (lyrics of it were actually printed on the released LPs inner sleeve) and a chorus was removed
I'd like to kindly ask to release the Thriller album in its originally produced 10-track form. Releases nowadays on cd do not have the same time limitation as LPs back in 1982. It would be nice to see the release of the original Thriller album on its 30th Anniversary this december

frank said:

great idea to release the original Thriller cuts!

some infos for interested readers:

Hot Street is registered to Rod Temperton on the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency along with the other songs he wrote for Thriller (see www.cmrra.ca - songs #145023 Hot Street / #145024 Baby Be Mine / # 145025 Thriller)

The uncut version of Billie Jean is released on the 12" single.

The uncut version of The Lady In My Life is released only on a promotional 2disc Rod Temperton compilation titled "The Songs of Rod Temperton" (Chrysalis Music / UK, 2002). The Lady In My Life (uncut version) was also going to be released on "Michael Jackson - The Essential 3.0" (Sony Music/Epic Records/Legacy Recordings, 2008) - however the song was cut off the tracklist shortly after its annoucment. I'm still wondering what the reason was. (The release of The Essential 3.0 and its tracklist including of the uncut version of The Lady In My Life was announced on 08/15/2008 here on legacyrecordings.com. Only three days later on 08/18/2008 a new tracklist without The Lady In My Life was presented)

I mean this album is the best-selling soundtrack album of all time! "The Bodyguard" film was re-released in theaters to celebrate 20 years since it's release, so this isn't a far-fetched idea. It's wise.
I know there are alternate versions of "I Will Always Love You" and "I Have Nothing," as far as Whitney material. The international edition of the album included Kenny G's "Waiting For You," which was unavailable on the U.S. version. This should all be included on such a re-release. (When there was a German commemorative edition, 2 Whitney remixes were included...they should/could be included as well.) Bob Dylan's first major U.K. show, and it exists gathering dust in Columbia's vaults in apprently stunning quality in terms of performance and sound.
It's rumoured that it was mastered for possible release in 2006 as a bonus freebie with 'Modern Times' but then scrapped.
Although we have the official 'Live 1964' release, this is significantly different in terms of the set played - first ever performance of 'Mr. Tambourine Man', 'Restless Farewell', 'It Ain't Me Babe' with an extra verse that has never been heard?!?

I wont purchase the new box set because it doesn't offer anything new, unreleased, or remastered (apart from first three). If Sony does decide to proceed with more remasters at a later date, I would recommend that they package any initial limited/deluxe version (ie: digipack/cardboard sleeve replica) more carefully than they did with the first 3 LC reissues (I had to exchange several copies I purchased. All were scratched or scratched in the attempt to remove the disc from the sleeve which was designed to fit the disc so tightly as to make it exceptionally difficult to remove without damaging it. I would recommend making the inner sleeve for the cd less snug or first packaging the disc inside a cloth sleeve, in manner of Japanese deluxe "vinyl replica" cds, to protect it.).

Anonymoustag:legacyrecordings.uservoice.com,2008-02-07:Event/107179132012-02-08T11:35:36-08:002012-02-08T11:35:36-08:00The Front - Please reissue "The Front" 1989 Columbia Records and Bakers Pink (1993 Epic) [updated]
I work on a fan website for this band and can document hundreds of requests from fans wanting to purchase this album.
